ILLINOIS DESTINATION IMAGINATION

Land of Thinkin’

In honor of Abraham Lincoln’s Bicentennial Anniversary, we are celebrating

"200 Years of Thinkin’ "

Welcome to the Website for Illinois Destination ImagiNation (ILDI), celebrating 25 years of Creative Problem Solving!

Destination ImagiNation® is the world's leading creativity, teamwork and problem-solving program for kindergarten through college-aged students. We're going strong in 50 states and over 41 countries!

Destination ImagiNation is a place where kids take what they know and what they are good at and learn to apply it to solve challenges, working together and cooperatively with a team and pushing the limits of imagination to best not their competition, but themselves.

Destination ImagiNation is a community-based, school-friendly program that builds participants' creativity, problem solving, and teamwork in enjoyable and meaningful ways. DI participants develop life skills while solving challenges through their unique hands-on experiences in the sciences, technology, mechanics, engineering, theater, improvisation, goal setting, time and budget management, team building, and leadership. The ultimate goal of Destination ImagiNation® is to teach participants that through their creativity, teamwork, perseverance and a little bit of Duct Tape, they can develop creative solutions to complex problems completely on their own! The addition of a special community service program entitled projectOUTREACH® brings to six the number of challenges in which school age youth worldwide can participate.

Who can join? Anyone! Your school, PTA, gifted program, Community Ed or after school program, home school group, YMCA or YWCA, Scouting programs, 4H, community organization, your family - anyone up for a challenge and fun!  Simply go to www.shopdi.org  and purchase a membership.

FOCUS ON HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

We know most DI teams start in elementary school, but did you know that in addition to the regular DI program, there are three other programs  that are geared to High School students?  If you are new to DI or want to include the benefits you gained from DI on your college applications, check out DI eXtreme, and projectOUTREACH. And, if you are interested in construction or engineering, the Construction Challenge, offered by AEM, might be right up your alley!

  • Did you know Illinois DI offers college scholarships? The application will be posted on the website soon.

  • Did you know that Destination ImagiNation is a NASSP-approved student contest and activity?

  • If you need community service hours, DI is a great way to earn them- either as a volunteer at training and information activities, or working at the tournaments- we can use your help! Or your team can participate in project OUTREACH this year.

  • And, if you haven't yet surfed the National website, you should check out the Construction Challenge being sponsored by the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM). There will be 15 Regional tournaments this year with one taking place in Chicago. Winners will compete at Global Finals in May. Here's the web link: www.constructionchallenge.org. (By the way, if you have a sibling or friend that is middle school age, this challenge is for them too!)
