New to IL-DI:
Parents
You've Heard of 'DI' but What Is It? Imagine a place where kids can learn to apply their creativity, what they learn in and out of school, and develop key skills including teamwork, project management and presentation skills. Now let's make it fun. (Because if it's not, they won't do it!). Next, tell the adults THEY can't help solve the challenge that the team selects - only the kids on the team can. Welcome to our world! Destination ImagiNation empowers kids with life skills that colleges and employers look for! FAST FACTS • ILDI has been involved in running "kids hands-on, adults hands-off creative problem solving programs for over 24 years- this year, "DI" is being done by over 200,000 students in 56 countries and all 50 states. • Over 9,000 students will take part in Destination ImagiNation Global Finals in May.
• This
year, we will have around 1,500 students
from Illinois schools and community
organizations taking part in the ILDI
program! HOW DOES IT WORK? Teams form with schools and community groups through late December, sometimes January. Single team registrations with no affiliation to any group or school are also accepted. Up to seven participants work together as a team to create their unique solution to a Team Challenge, which can have a focus that is theatrical, structural, improvisational, scientific or technical - or, if the team desires, a blend of several disciplines. These challenges are also tied into National Learning Standards. There are four levels of competition based on the age of the oldest member of the team. Teams learn and practice creative, quick-thinking skills for the Instant Challenge portion of competition. In all, there are about 20 scoring areas for each team rewarding teamwork, innovation, creativity, and results. For students Pre-K to second grade, we have a non-competitive version of the program called Rising Stars!™ For students in post-secondary education, we have University DI, or DI eXtreme! Destination ImagiNation helps young people learn in a fun and supportive environment, and the valuable skills they have acquired will be with them for a lifetime.
